MaterialsOur ONLINE TEXTBOOK will provide you with most of the information you need to answer any questions you have about Unit 1. You can also research individual key terms, but you must be absolutely certain you are using a CREDIBLE SOURCE when doing your own research. (EDU, ORG, GOV sites are all good places to start.)

The Great West Prezi - This is our overall Unit Project (test grade). We will be working on it in class, but there will be some outside work required. You will have to collaborate with group members to decide who is responsible for what. It can be broken up in several different ways. We will discuss all of it in class, along with group assignments. The Great West Anticipation Guide - We will complete this to discuss the ideas of Westward Expansion and the roles particular groups played. Motivations for Westward Expansion power point - This is the basics for how and why people moved Westward. It also describes the types of people moving west and what they did once they arrived. Farmer Game and Questions (if you didn't finish or missed out!) There is a game played and explained if you missed the one we played in class. Dawes Severalty Act Reading - Read, answer the question and write a full and complete definition for what it meant to be assimilated to Native Americans. |
Unit 1 VideosThis is a quick(!) overview of westward expansion. It covers some of the key terms that we cover throughout the unit and examines the struggles people suffered as they moved and settled. Populism is very important to both Farmers and Immigrants. They are the "Peoples' Party" and are promising things for everyone that will bring more equality between the RICH and the POOR! Although never elected, their ideas will later be picked up by the Democrat party. The Gilded Age was a difficult time for MOST Americans. Gilded, meaning covered in a thin layer of gold, was how Mark Twain described the United States. From afar were seemed to be the nation of growth, possibility and the 'American Dream'! But once you arrived, many quickly learned that corruption, racism and intolerance ran rampant. Populist Party (Taylor Swift "Style" Parody) - great song for those interested in learning information by musical means. |
